APIs make up more than half of the known 1.3-1.5 million cases of chronic hepatitis B in the U.S.
Formerly known as the WA State Asian Pacific Islander (API) Hepatitis B Task Force, HBCW has worked to bring hepatitis B awareness and education to the API community since 1997. While still retaining our focus on the API community, our work now also includes exploration into culturally appropriate and effective strategies to reaching the families and household members of positive individuals and to expanding our work to other populations from high risk regions. We are a network of committed health care professionals and community volunteers, health departments, community clinics, and nonprofit organizations, with representatives from the local, state, and national levels. We are located in Seattle, Washington and are supported by the Washington State Department of Health.
Our work promotes understanding of the liver disease, including testing, immunizations, and treatment for hepatitis B. We strive to do our work in a culturally appropriate manner and with our Advisory Committee and partners.
